Man Fashion: What is Cost Per Wear?

As I shared with you before, in this economy turmoil, We’ve all been faced with the dilemma of finding the right clothing to add to our wardrobe as well as justification to spend the amount of cash, more so for these days, fashionable items can cost a pretty penny. So, the great way is to adopt the mathematic calculation that I shared with you previously, cost per wear (CPW). To figure out how to save money with the CPW formula, simply divide the original cost of the item by the estimated number of times you will wear that item. When you look at it this way, you’re looking at a way to save money with the CPW formula.

Let’s take a pair of pricey men’s jeans for example: High-end jeans have become pretty commonplace and are now a necessary item to have in your closet. For the average man, a $150 pair of jeans will probably yield 40 wears over the course of a year. We’d apply the CPW formula by taking the price divided by the number of wears — in this case it’s $150/50. Suddenly, the $200 pair of jeans that you’ve been eyeing becomes a sensible purchase once you apply the CPW formula and realize you’re essentially paying $3 per wear.

Keep in mind, an acceptable cost per wear will vary from person to person. A few factors should go into determining a CPW that is right for you. Start by calculating your annual clothing budget and the number of garments you are likely to buy over the course of a year. Try to cover the following categories:

So keep in mind that this article is not trying to ask you to spend more. Rather, more about spending wisely. Make your dollars make sense and use the CPW formula to save money and set your mind at ease the next time you’re face-to-face with a hefty price point.

Man Fashion: Trousers of Best Fit?

So why is the generally recommended length for men’s trousers? Because it creates a clean line at the back of the trouser, adding to the lengthening silhouette that is the suit’s main aesthetic advantage. Because when a man is walking it looks more elegant if his suit trousers flap less and expose less of his ankle.

If the trouser were longer, it would create a puddle of folds that could ruin the silhouette of a suit, dragging the eye down and making a man look shorter. If the trouser were shorter, it would flap around the ankle and remove any elegance – probably reminding the viewer of a schoolboy in short pants.

To quote one famous Italian “I don’t necessarily want people to see my socks, but I want to make sure they can see my shoes.”

Now, if men on the continent simply wore their trousers shorter, they would encounter the aforementioned problem with flapping. But they aware of the rules and why they exist. So they wear their trousers narrower as well, fitting them closer to the ankle and minimizing any flapping.

NY Fashion Designer Phillip Lim Branches into Shoes and Swimwear

Fashion Designer, Phillip Lim is expanding his line to include shoes, swimwear and lingerie, according to new reports. Just in time for summer, his three-piece bathing suit line will feature floral patchwork prints in three variations (two one-pieces, one bikini).

A little background of this Chinese ancestry, he launched his collection with start-up cash from friend and fabric supplier Wen Zhou in 2004. Almost overnight, his line became both a critical and commercial darling. Lim’s coveted dresses were quickly spotted around town on "It" girls Natalie Portman and Kate Hudson, fueling demand upwards of $12 million wholesale by his third season. His womenswear look combines girlish refinement and laid-back ease with moments of quirky romance. Headbands splashed with Swarovski crystals and shift dresses adorned with pearls exemplify his burgeoning arty side and were rewarded with a CFDA award in 2007.

Regarding the shoe line, which has emphasis on flats versus stilettos Lim said, "Everyone's making crazy shoes... so we were like, 'Let's do working shoes, but sophisticated and beautiful.'"

Phillip Lim is also debuting five styles of lingerie and three styles of swimwear, to be sold under the name of "3.1 Phillip Lim Initials," WWD reports.

Men's Watches Trends for 2009

As I mentioned before, we'll heard that watch is the single most important accessory for a man. It may appear that many men understand this since almost every guy has a watch on his hand, but for watches to be considered fashion accessory watches must be not only functional but also stylish and "in vogue".

So let check out what are the most prominent men's watches trends for 2009.

1. Over-sized
Big trend is big watches, both in size and in shape. Many are more than 40 millimeters in diameter.

2. Modern Vintage
The most sought after watches trends in dressy watches this year are classic retro looks with mechanical movements.

3. Colorful
The trends in watches for this year are not required to be in formal colors anymore. This trend is picked up not only by casual designs but by classic designs too.

These new colorful watches will surely catch the eye and leave everyone with an opportunity to add a dash of color in rather neutral look.

4. Natural
Although Colorful watches are in the limelight, the natural designs are still dominant men's watches world and this natural trends will not be obsoleted in years to come.

5. Mood Style
Watches designers are now focus on consumer moods, rather than purely design and features, this newly identified market segment are getting more and more receptive by the consumers, and the trends will continue for the next couple of months to come.

Movie Review: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I'm an X-men fanatic. I've been reading the comics for some times. I love Wolverine even though he's grossly overexposed and has lost the mystery that made him cool to begin with. X-men Origins: Wolverine is a film that should be right in my wheelhouse.

If you are the fan of Huge Jackman, you should not missed this great show.

Man Fashion: Hair Color and Spectacle

Came back from my short break, and first thing came to my mind was to check my mails, mostly some RSS I signed up and couple of mails from my friends. Ultimately, I came across one of the mail from the readers asking hair color and spectacle frame. So I thought of answering this question here to benefit the rest of the blog readers as well.

Hair Color and Frames
  • Blondes look good in transparent or light-colored frame.
  • Brunettes look great in darker plastics and metal frame
  • Redheads will suit most frame but you might want to avoid yellow and white frames.
Eye Color and Frames
Of course when we talked about hair color, we also should not over look your eye color too.

  • Browned eye men look great in any color of frames, but it will not be any special with brown frames as well.
  • Green eyed mens look best in chocolate, khaki, tortoiseshell, purple and burgundy frames
  • Blue eyes are highlighted by frame in dark purple, orange, tortoiseshell or rose frames
  • Light brown and hazel eyed mens will shine in rose, purple, gold and warm green frames.

Man Fashion: Nose Candy

It is a scientific fact that the sense of smell lingers for a long time in the mind of a person. Whether you believe or not, your friends and colleagues do associate you with the smell of your perfume or cologne, so it is essential to choose a fragrance that is totally you. Just like in selecting clothes from a boutique, you should make sure that your perfume reflects your own personal style and uniqueness.

Previously I shared with you my top 5 perfumes. In this post, I would like to share some essential on this nose candy.

Where should one apply fragrance?
The most important, in descending order, are rops of your forearms(in moving them, you create your scent space), neck, and one serious shot down your back inside your shirt.

Mens Perfume
Day versus Night: How much scent?
Your use for the office should always be lighter; evening, you can get louder. Humidity represses scent, but don't overcompensate, because humidity makes people less tolerant of odors too.

Mens Perfume
Should age affect scent choices?
There are scents appropriate for different ages. Teens can wear ckIN2U with great success, Juicy Couture Dirty English works better for 20s.

Mens Perfume
How does one know how a scent will smell on him?
Only when you wear it the first day will you really know what it smells like on you (by others' reaction) but only on day 2 will you know whether your initial reading was right or wrong. One must frequently take a fragrance out for a few spins.

How long and where should you keep fragrances?
Scents definitely have a shelf life (My bottles are still not expire! :P) and it'll be obvious what's still good and what has turned. So if you buy something you really love, there's only one place to store it: the fridge. So next time, remember to return back immediately after apply.
